What Happened
Heavy winds brought difficult scoring conditions today as we had the round of 16 in the morning, followed by quarterfinals in the afternoon. The field has been narrowed down to just four players vying for the 43rd Mid-Amateur Championship.
First to secure his spot in the semifinals was the stroke play medalist, Jake Sherwin. A difficult morning match against Matt Galloway led to a 1 up victory, while his afternoon was highlighted by a front nine 31 that led to a 5 & 4 victory over Frank Alafoginis.
Next to come in was Austin Collins. He breezed through his matches against Tyler Hurst and T J Shuart, winning both 3 & 2. After going down early against Shuart, it was back and forth between the two until finally Collins ran away.
Alex Slaton defeated both Mike Finster and Patrick Perez 2 & 1 in both matches. Finster took down the defending Jay Halverson yesterday which made for a difficult morning match. His afternoon was finished by Perez with both players bogeying their last hole.
Lastly, the Two-Man Shoot-Out champions battled against each other in the afternoon that ended with Ty Capps defeating Tyler Gulliksen 4 & 3. Capps rattled off four straight birdies from 10-13 to solidify the match.
